Oh, I almost forgot, I leave for New Orleans on Tuesday; anyone have suggestions of places I need to visit? I would love some ideas: stets@mstetson.com. Thanks, hope you have a great weekend.

CROSSROADS

21 January 2009

I am at a crossroads. I usually paint over my white walls (being a step-child to a spec-house contractor, I just have to revolt), but I don't know if I can get myself to paint these adorable white cinderblock walls. So, I think I may draw some inspiration from Robert Mills Architects' office (Grattan Street): white walls, some wood contrasts, and then bursts of color. I would love to work in that environment. What do you think? Totally not in a rad loft space, don't have those sexy dark wood floors, but I do have good natural light and a blank palette.

I'll keep you posted.

A+++

Figure A | Design, Inc. killed it this Christmas. I received a thoughtful package that contained some tasty treats, both visual and edible. The red scalloped box came wrapped in a delightful belly band. (I love anything wrapped in a band. At this point I knew it was going to be really good!) Opening the box, I found the Figure A Holiday Survival Guide stitched with red and white baker's twine. Please. The pages are full of fun ideas to spin a not-so-nice aspect of the holidays from dealing with the crowds to enjoying time with the in-laws (holiday cocktails required). Then, as if the book wasn't good enough, there were baked treats: lemon yogurt cake and peppermint brownies. (Devoured in t-minus 5 minutes. Thanks, husband.) Thankfully, the Figure A crew included the recipes so I could experience them as well. I heart good design and I heart sweets, but together, I almost couldn't contain myself.

Claudia was sweet enough to send over some cute snapshots of the package. Thanks, again, Figure A. Clearly, they brought much joy to the Stetson Thompson household!

CARRYING ON

19 January 2009

I sit at the computer amidst boxes with the flu or cold or something totally crappy; typical. I am a little slower than I had hoped, but I'm glad to be back. There are so many fun things to post.

Hope you all had a wonderful Martin Luther King Day!

CINDERBLOCKS

I will have to get used to wall-to-wall carpet again... boo. Seeing as I have to move THIS WEEKEND, I'm not sure if my internet setup will be functioning come Monday. I'll keep you posted. Happy Friday!

RELOCATION

08 January 2009

It has been months of talking about it, but my husband and I are officially moving. We are very excited and have found a great tenant for our condo. Best part of moving? Decorating the new place, of course! M and I are so excited; we will only live a half of a mile from each other. Currently we are thinking the place may need the organic matelasse duvet and shams from West Elm... and the chunky plaited wool rug... and the handloomed striped cotton throw... and the...

Cardboardesign Cardboard Furniture and Home Accessories New York, New YorkCardboardesign Cardboard Furniture and Home Accessories New York, New YorkI think these cardboard designs for kids could be super fun. They can color on them or leave them be. Cardboardesign carries other fun cardboard creations like furniture and home accessories. Reminds me of good ol' 3-dimensional art class. Art 130, if I remember correctly. Our assignment: to design and create a chair out of cardboard that could hold our weight. Let's just say a few were in pieces by then end of the critique.

Marshall Leggett paintings Portland, OregonMarshall Leggett paintings Portland, OregonBack in July, I had the pleasure of meeting Pam (of housemartin and ink & peat) and her oh-so-talented Marshall during a quick trip through Portland. My hubby and I were so blessed to spend time with them. They are both so sweet, extremely talented (and well spoken), and most welcoming. Marshall was working on a few paintings for an upcoming show, and Stephan and I really wished we has snagged a few... now I can. It is official, Marshall Leggett has been etsified. You may find his amazing work in his etsy shop, hightempo.Marshall Leggett paintings Portland, OregonMarshall Leggett paintings Portland, Oregon

SPARKLE

04 January 2009

The Chic Retreat : lighting unique home accessoriesI had so many good intentions this last week: organize the MStetson post categories, send out my Thank-Yous, etc, etc. Instead, I transferred what felt like endless client files, thousands of typefaces, software... At last, I am fully functioning and I look good behind these monitors, I must say, but I feel a little cabin fever. I must get out... I need a little sparkle. A little glitz. There is a unique, sparkley lighting inventory at The Chic Retreat and some fun stuff in their winter sale, too.

Hope you had a wonderful New Year's Eve and New Year's Day!
