A QUARTER TO...

29 January 2010

qlocktwo by biegert and funk: black, vanilla, cherry, blackberry, lime, stainlessMy apologies for my absence. I've had a fever for the last few days; not sure what I came down with, but there was only one thing to get me out of my snuggie to post, the perfect clock to accompany my favorite calendar system: Qlocktwo by Biegert & Funk. First, let me start by explaining that I do, in fact, own a snuggie. It was given to me as a joke, but appears to come in quite handy during this fever spell. Don't judge. Second, I would do a lot of things to have that clock, including holding onto this fever a bit longer. Okay maybe not, it is really annoying, but you catch my drift. I really like this clock.

These are the stunning work of Anne Kyyro Quinn. Art from felt and fabric; cut, sewn, and hand-stitched to create these brilliant textures and motifs. I can only imagine how pleasing these would be in person. View the Anne Kyyro Quinn studio portfolio here.

BOOK BOUND

18 January 2010

While pursuing my design degree, I had the pleasure of taking a few letterpress and book-binding classes from an incredible professor Elsi Vassdal Ellis (EVE). It appears one of my classmates, Erica Ekrem Ferraris, has followed in Elsi's most meticulous foot steps. Odelae, a studio strung with paper & string, contains Erica's gorgeous hand-stitched journals utilizing found and salvaged objects. So beautiful, Erica!

...and so inspiring; time to bust out the ol' bone folder and PVA glue, not to mention brush up on all my stitches!

PETRIE PAIR

05 January 2010

Cole Chair from Room & BoardPetrie Sofa from Crate and BarrelHappy New Year! Hope you had wonderful holiday! Our trip to the Seattle area was great, but my blood seems to have thinned over the last five years in Southern California; I was freezing!

I think I mentioned before how my mother's house flooded last year. (Lesson learned: turn off your water when on vacation.) She is just finishing up with the insurance company and realized I had a small antique dresser that was misplaced by the teams of people helping gut the house. To my surprise, my mother handed me a "replacement-value" check. Her stipulation? It had to go to furniture. I'm thinking the petrie needs a side kick... a side kick of color. Hmmm...
