Just a random post to document my love of these tea towels at Hammocks & High Teas and all the maya patterned linens for that matter.
This striking Paris apartment is just too much for me; the chevron hardwood floors… plaster-detailed ceilings… all those white built-ins and panels… divine. Apartment A courtesy of f+f architectes.
This week has been rather interesting. We are in the middle of hiring a new designer/production artist at my office and I am in awe (in a good way) of how many applicants are applying. (Thank you craigslist!) My concern? Their "applications". I'm not sure if I'm old fashioned (which can't really be the case considering I only graduated from university in 2004) or just a stickler for the rules, but really? Does anyone actually read job postings these days? Could someone please send me a cover letter that is personalized to me and the position I am looking for? Microsoft Word, really?! Ugh.
Just a few tips from an interviewer trying to sort through a cagillion applications and then I'll get down from my soapbox:
{ 01 } Please read the job posting in its entirety.
{ 02 } If I state no out-of-area applicants, I mean it.
{ 03 } Send a well-written, well-spelled cover letter that is personalized to the company and its current job opening.
{ 04 } Send in all materials requested, in the format requested.
{ 05 } While I appreciate an online portfolio, and actually expect you to have one, do not expect me to proceed to your site, download your resume and a PDF portfolio for my records. Guess what I have a tendency to do? Toss it and move onto the next applicant because you didn't follow through with No.04.
{ 06 } If you are a designer, DO NOT send me anything in Word.
{ 07 } Please implement a proper, one-page resume utilizing your typography and hierarchy skills.
{ 08 } Bring a "leave behind". Whether it be a copy of your resume or a small sampling of your best work. Give me something to refer back to.
{ 09 } And finally, please send a thank you letter or email.
Am I alone here?

I really, really, really enjoy Shelton, Mindel & Associates portfolio; so much so I have a hard time narrowing down what projects to highlight. Their materials, use of light and space… seriously stunning.
View Architectural Digest's interview with Lee Mindel here.
It has been so fun to watch Emily's progress over at 4685 North Damen. For those of you in Chicago, the wait is almost over. You'll be able to check out door number one, door number two, and the fun new cash wrap… not to mention all the delightful Orange Beautiful products. Wish I could be there to partake in the festivities!
Check out more Orange Beautiful announcements on their blog.
Happy (almost) Mother's Day! If I lived closer to my mom, I think I would like to treat her to some yummy Sprinkles...
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
