chunk of time
22 March 2011
Great calendar over at Present&Correct. I've been re-organizing my office and I so wish this little guy, Clarendon-style numbers and all, was sitting pretty on my desk.
second dose of color
21 March 2011
Needed another hit of color today and thanks to Alice&Trixie, I got it. Loving all the spring dresses.
art for japan
18 March 2011
It's been a long week, but not nearly as long as how it must have felt for those in Japan. My heart breaks watching and reading of the events and the effects after such catastrophes. These seemed to have put things into perspective instantaneously.
We have been blessed by so much: our homes, our loved ones, our belongings, our talents...
Brent Sandor and Casey Bevington have used their talents to create Art for Japan; all proceeds of the sale of their 18"x24" ink-jet, screen-printed, and hand-painted posters go directly to the Japanese Red Cross Society. (Editions of 100. Posters ship Monday, April 11, 2011.)

soft embrace
The father-son trio of Objeti brings a new meaning to the word soft-light. These hand-pressed felt pendants are based on Chamfer, Radius, and Ball endmills. Great forms. And they are made in the good ol' USofA. (Objeti is the Slovenian word for embrace.)
classically cool
I enjoyed examining Katie Lydon's portfolio with her sophisticated color palettes and excellent mixtures of styles, eras, and adornment. Brilliant. I know she is quite celebrated in the design community, not sure how I am just now finding her work?!
p.s. I freaking LOVE the wallpaper paired with that rug in the child's room!
tea addict
17 March 2011
During college I worked at an English tea room. (If you are ever in Bellingham, Washington you MUST visit Abbey Garden Tea Room. Don't even get me started about their scones; I have yet to find one even remotely as delicious... mmmm raspberry jam and clotted cream.) Not being a tea drinking, or even a coffee drinker for that matter, I was a little intimidated by the more zealous and, shall we say, "proper" tea patrons that frequented the shop. I quickly learned there wasn't much to it and grew to love tea; it's a daily must-have for me.
Some dear friends just started a tea company, The Persimmon Tree, and I received the sweetest little package of loose-leaf teas. My faves are the Jasmine Ancient Beauty and the Earl Grey Créme. Below is a video Mel put together on how easy it is to steep loose-leaf tea.
p.s. wouldn't those blooming teas make for such a fun bridal or baby shower beverage; they are so gorgeous.
banda
14 March 2011

A sweet new typeface has been released from Typedepot, Banda. Rounded terminals and a tall x-height are what caught my attention, plus I always love an ultra-thin weight. Download the regular weight for free!
hooray for kate!

The The new kate spade website has new goodies in all kinds of show-stopping colors; shop or play. kate spade behind the curtain. kate spade blog. kate spade tumblr.Loved this month's color of the month display at the Fashion Island store, too: beach mats, balloons, and lots of yellow spray-painted accessories. Seriously, so cute.

I pretty much want every product at The Lollipop Shoppe, but right now, I'm infatuated with Mr. Nelson's ceramic clocks. Oh, George, how were you so brilliant?!
crash course
10 March 2011
Nicole Hill Gerulat (you may recognize her famous rainbow cake photograph) is offering a Photo 101 class in Newport Beach this month. It's a great opportunity to learn some new techniques or brush up on old ones. The one-day workshop will be held at Fairmont Hotel Newport Beach on March 26th, 2011 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Thinking about going myself, should we go together?
Also, check out Nicole's blog for more goodies and tidbits.
vertical perspective
09 March 2011
Woohoo, internet is back up! Shafew! As I was checking email, I found a nice note from Trish at Westerville Design about their Universal Vertical Filing Rack, which is now also available in bamboo. I'm always looking for more effective storage solutions in my office, especially now that I'm working from home; this would be amazing to keep my work-top clear and clutter free. Love this!
studious
07 March 2011

I'm thinking this workspace by Roman and Williams is beyond incredible with those work-top tables, flat files, and drafting table, not to mention that library nook and those floors!
p.s. I also flipped about the wall unit display below. Rad.
zellie girl
06 March 2011
Last summer I introduced you to the newest addition of the Thompson household, Hazel... or H, Zellie, Zelliebot, and Crazel (Hazel + a whole lotta crazy). These were some cute images my dear friend Jehna snapped while dog-sitting. (A stint that included a trip to the emergency vet, but we won't go into that. Needless to say, BEST DOG SITTER EVER.) Just thought these might be fun to share.
ahoy
04 March 2011
Happy Friday! I wish I was spending the weekend in this IvanaHelsinki Tunic. I mean, there's a rope belt.
glowing
I'm a sucker for lamps. Especially pendants. (I'm sure I've said that before.) So, I seriously got overwhelmed when I came across TOKEN. What started as a lighting fix ended up as a full design overdose. Their entire site held my attention for what seemed like hours... the XDESIGN GreenLight, the NYU computer lab with those killer mechanized tables, the Kamen Residence, the Reed Barrow collaboration (with video)... I'll hit that again.

So much energy spent on one gorgeous letterform... just as it should be. Details matter.

Gorgeous pendant by water pressure lighting: rogue wave. Such a great use of beaded chain; I'd love to see a few variations a whole collection... smaller semi-circle pendants... just a straight horizontal... beautiful in so many different applications.
